Nope, I haven’t always wanted to do a PhD. Partly it happened by accident!
At school I started off wanting to be a vet. Then changed my mind to become a civil engineer. Then at the beginning of 6th form decided there was no way I was going to university. By the end of 6th form I’d decided that I ought to go. So I went to university and studied there for 5 years. At the end of that I realised I was enjoying what I was doing so I decided to carry on and to do that I had to do a PhD.
I’m nearly at the end of my PhD and what I’ll do next, I don’t know. I have to decide by Christmas, but at the minute I think I will go to Germany for 9 months and continue studying, but perhaps something different to the PhD!
