A good question! IAS is important to me because I think it’s important that enthusiastic people like the scientists who volunteered for IAS get to talk to people about their work. I want people to realise that science is really cool and what it can tell us about the natural world is fascinating. More than that though, I want people to realise that we are normal people too! Scientists have the same interests, thoughts and fears as anyone else does.

It’s all too easy for the media to mis-represent science and scientists and IAS is a really good chance to show people that the media stereotypes are not quite right.

I used to be a teacher and really enjoy hearing unbiased points of view – in science, we communicate with one another too little and get lost in our own worlds.

I’m really nervous about talking to people, but I think science is important (and I’m only typing here not talking)

It means I can get away from my real work, for a bit.
