Get the Tricorder from Star Trek to work. It would make my job so much easier and there would be no need to take blood samples. (Im working on it, but I will still need to take a blood sample)

Excellent question. If I could collect data on an endangered species (like the Galapagos sea lion), that when published would change people’s attitudes or behaviour (i.e. through a new law being passed about pet dogs on the Galapagos archipelago) and this prevented the Galapagos sea lion going extinct – I’d be very happy. Preventing species from going extinct is important for future human psychological wellbeing, but also for practical reasons: if too many links are removed from the interactive web structure of an ecosystem, the ecosystem can collapse, and this could lead to major problems for humans; we could lose the ability to grow crops and be faced with incurable diseases.

Pulsar astronomers really want to find a pulsar orbiting a black hole – I’d love to find one of these systems.

To own a time turner, like Hermione in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Sometimes I just wish that I could more things in a day.

      Nice question.
For me though, I would like to make a material or discover something that makes people’s lives better and perhaps easier. For my research that would probably be finding a material which will help separate out carbon dioxide so that we can prevent climate change and not have to change our lifestyles too much.
      I also like Eva’s suggestion!
