Hmm. I’m doing this for fun!
I helped out in my university with a lot of school visits – showing the students how to do experiments in the lab or going into schools and talking about climate change for instance. I enjoyed being enthusiastic about science and getting enthusiasm back from the people I was talking to.
When I found out about IAS I thought it would be fun to try answering all the questions that would be thrown at me, to show my enthusiasm for science and (hopefully) get some enthusiastic responses back!

For fun, to share my enthusiasm for what I do and to widen my perspective.

I hope this’ll be fun. And I want to see if I can persuade more people – girls especially to go for science, even if it’s just to learn enough to understand how great it is. When I did Physics at UNi. there were about 5% women in the class, and less in things like engineering. I thought we would have got numbers a bit mor balanced by now… but it’s still down at the 10 – 15% level

It started of as for fun. Now its just sheer terror, have seen how fast you guys can type.
In addition to Chris’s answer, in my lab the ratio is about 60% female 40% male right up to vice-president level, but the department is more biological sciences.

For the fun, so let’s do something fun together. In my project I am dealing with people everyday in person so I figured, why not online as well. And it’s something completely different to talk to non-scientists, exciting but very tricky.
