When they are hanging out on the beach they like to spend most of their time sleeping. When they’re not sleeping, they sneeze and cough a lot (sounds like just like humans) to remove the salty water from the their airways. The pups and juveniles play around together in the shallows and the young males fight each other for position on the beach to get ready for the breeding season. The females provide milk for their pups and the large males keep a sharp eye out for any small males invading their territories and chase them out while barking loudly if they dare enter.
